What the pipes screensaver is
The rhythm is the point. A pipe grows, turns, occasionally traps itself, jumps somewhere else in a new colour, and when the grid is more than half full the screen clears and it starts again. That cycle is what the original had and what everyone remembers.
Each segment is drawn twice: a thick round-capped stroke for the tube and a thin lighter stroke down the middle for the highlight. Two strokes is all it takes to make a flat line read as a pipe.

This is a flat interpretation rather than a rendered 3D scene, so it starts instantly and runs on anything. The behaviour — the growth, the turns, the colour changes, the reset — is faithful.
The speed control changes how many segments are laid per second. Slow is better if it is running somewhere people will look at it repeatedly; fast fills a large screen quickly.
How to run the pipes screensaver full screen
Press the fullscreen button on the player, or the F key. Escape brings you back to the page. On a desktop browser F11 does the same job and hides the browser’s own toolbars as well, which is what you want on a display that is going to be left running.
Everything you change in the settings is written into the address bar as you change it, so the version you have set up is a link. Bookmark it, or send it to whoever is running the screen. Space pauses and resumes at any time.
