Meditation Timer

A quiet countdown for a sitting session. The ring drains slowly, nothing flashes, and nothing makes a sound.

Press F for fullscreen, Esc to exit.

A timer that stays out of the way

Most meditation apps solve a problem you do not have and add several you do: an account, notifications, a streak counter, a suggestion that you upgrade. This is a page with a ring on it that gets smaller.

There is no ending sound and no flash. If your eyes are closed you will not need either; if they are open, an empty ring is unmistakable without being a jolt.

  • Sitting practice of any length
  • A quiet timebox for reading or thinking
  • Any session where a notification would be exactly the wrong thing

No account, no streak, no notifications

Nothing is recorded anywhere. There is no history, no server, and nothing that would let this page tell you how many days in a row you have practised — which for a great many people is a feature.

The session length goes into the address bar, so your usual twenty minutes is a bookmark.

Setting up a session

Set the length, press F for fullscreen so nothing else is on the display, and press Start. The screen dims to a ring on black.

If you want something to look at rather than a timer, the snowfall screensaver runs indefinitely and is about as calm as anything on this site gets.

Questions

Is there a bell at the end?

No. Nothing on this site plays audio. The ring simply empties, which is enough if your eyes are open and unobtrusive if they are not.

Does it track my sessions?

No. Nothing is recorded, there is no account and there is no server. The only state that exists is the length in the address bar.

Is the meditation timer free?

Yes — free, no account, no download, no limit. It runs entirely in your browser, so it keeps working if the connection drops.

Does it make a sound when it finishes?

No. Nothing on this site plays audio. The screen changes colour and flashes instead, which is what works on a muted display at the front of a room — and it will not startle anyone.

Can I save my settings?

They are already saved — in the address bar. Every change is written into the URL, so bookmarking the page keeps the timer exactly as you configured it, and pasting the link gives someone else the same one.
