What a gold screen is used for

Gold screen online: #FFD700 at full screen
Gold on a screen is a colour, not a material. Real gold looks metallic because it reflects light directionally and shifts as you move; a flat field cannot do that, so #FFD700 reads as a rich yellow rather than as metal. Anything that looks genuinely metallic on a display is doing it with gradients and highlights, not with a single colour.
That said, it is a distinctly warmer and deeper yellow than #FFFF00, because the blue channel is not fully off. It is easier to look at than pure yellow and photographs better as a background.
For lighting, gold sits between yellow and orange in effect: warm, bright, and forgiving on skin at moderate brightness.
How to get a full screen gold background
Press the fullscreen button on the player above, or the F key. Escape returns you to the page. On a desktop browser F11 does the same job and hides the browser's own toolbars as well.
